Coming from a family of musicians, this English-born beat maker started playing the piano at 8, then the jazz guitar at 14. As his interest in hip hop grew he started collecting records, an obsession that continues to this day. His early live career saw him performing at various bars around London, and he was also part of the drum and bass trio, White Noise and together they performed around the UK and supported the Scratch Perverts live…

A move to Dubai in his mid-twenties put him in a unique position as one of the few hip hop scratch DJ’s in the region. This helped him to firmly established himself as part of the developing music scene, gaining him recognition for his own brand of hip hop, funk and soul music. His earlier experiences playing for London internet stations like Gaialive and Interface led him to co-found Dubai’s first internet radio station, further cementing his role in the burgeoning local scene. With the launch of local club nights (including Elefant Sounds and On the Corner) he soon racked up an impressive list of live performances including gigs alongside the likes of Quantic, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Nitin Sawhney, Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money, Jazzie B, DJ Woody, DJ Format, DJ Yoda, Florian Keller and Aaron LaCrate. He also continued to blur the boundaries between genres by collaborating with a local jazz collective called Abstrakt Collision. Their partnership led to various performances around the UAE and Beirut.

DJ Solo’s live performances are a huge part of what he does, but his major musical moments involve production. His work has seen him co-found Diligent Thought, a collective of forward-thinking, and socially conscious hip hop. His solo projects are wide ranging, and often embrace a variety of genres. This diversity in his personal music aesthetic has led to construction of a number of different production aliases including Ductchild and Wriggly Scott. He is currently working on a solo EP due to release mid 2010.
